NEW KIOSKS WILL FEATURE FLASH-DRIVE TECHNOLOGY

AVT (Automated Vending Technologies) has announced that it will begin to install 20,000 Flix on Stix kiosks in shopping malls, retail stores, airports, hotels, convenience stores, and college campuses throughout the country within the next 90 days. The kiosks will allow anyone with a USB flash drive to download a movie within about 30 seconds to rent or to buy. Since the movies are transmitted over an ultra high-speed Internet connection, thousands of them can be offered, no title is ever out of stock, and there are no late fees. Moreover, unlike traditional video kiosks, there is no physical disc that needs to be returned. Moreover, the company said that it plans to provide movies via its kiosks “well before they are available on DVD or Blu-ray through Internet subscription services.” The movies can be played directly on personal computers or, via a settop box, on TV sets. The company has thus far not disclosed any content deals with studios.
