TIME‘S TIMING GREAT FOR SOCIAL NETWORK

In a case of fortuitous timing, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been selected as Time magazine’s Person of the Year just as the movie about him, The Social Network, is being considered for top awards recognition and a month before the film’s DVD/Blu-ray release. The movie is prominently mentioned in the Time cover story and in news articles about it. Says Time: “The Social Network is a rich, dramatic portrait of a furious, socially handicapped genius who spits corrosive monologues in a monotone to hide his inner pain. This character bears almost no resemblance to the actual Mark Zuckerberg.” The 26-year-old Zuckerberg (he’s the youngest person to receive Time‘s honor since the magazine named 25-year-old Charles Lindbergh its first Man of the Year in 1927) offers his own take on the film in the article: “I found it funny what details they focused on getting right,” he says. “I think I owned every single T-shirt that they had me wearing. But the biggest thing that thematically they missed is the concept that you would have to want to do something — date someone or get into some final club — in order to be motivated to do something like this. It just like completely misses the actual motivation for what we’re doing, which is, we think it’s an awesome thing to do.”
