ROM-COM PREDICTED TO BE WEEKEND WINNER

It will be Ladies Day once again at the box office this weekend as the female-skewing romantic comedy No Strings Attached, starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, debuts. Box office forecasters are predicting it will beat out the male-skewing The Green Hornet, but not by a lot. Strings is likely to earn about $20-23 million over the weekend, while Hornet will probably take in $17-20 million, they say. In limited release, The Weinstein Co. is set to unveil Company Men, starring Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones, and Newmarket Films will release director Peter Weir’s latest, The Way Back, starring Colin Farrell and Ed Harris.

UPDATE: Paramount’s No Strings Attached led the box office on Friday with an estimated $7.3 million, ahead of Sony/Columbia’s The Green Hornet with about $5.1 million.
