While Charlie Sheen’s reported Las Vegas binge with at least two porn stars over the weekend was fueling gossip websites and scandal tabloids, they were also raising concerns among CBS executives about its impact on the network’s top-rated comedy show, Two and a Half Men, in which Sheen stars. Sheen failed to show up on the set on Wednesday, his publicist, Stan Rosenfield, explaining: “Charlie woke up this morning with an ear infection, and he will go see his ear doctor first, and then go to the set.” In reporting on Sheen’s no-show, Sharon Waxman, who runs the industry blog, wrote parenthetically in her “WaxWord” column, “(‘earache’ as in ‘hangover’?)” Waxman quoted an executive close to the show as saying, “There’s not a lot we can do. You can’t force a 45-year-old man to go to rehab.” Waxman said that senior executives from CBS and Warner Brothers Television, which produces the show, plan to attend Friday’s taping of Two and a Half Men.
