GERVAIS HINTS HE MAY BE BACK AS GOLDEN GLOBES HOST
It’s hard to tell whether Ricky Gervais was serious — is he ever serious? — when he said on his “Golden Globes Diary” website this week that he had been invited back to host the Golden Globes Awards for a third time by the show’s organizers. “I don’t think I should,” he said. “I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure.” However, Phil Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, responded on Tuesday, “There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky.” (During the telecast, Gervais had said that he had to help Berk get off the toilet and put his teeth back in.) Contacted by the New York Post, Gervais’s manager, Matthew Harvey, explained, “He said that the show’s organizers, in this case NBC, called him and said he should not rule out a return for a third time.” And in a new posting, Gervais indicated that he hasn’t closed his mind to such such an invitation. “If they do invite me back and I accept,” he wrote, “I’m going to pull exactly the same s*** again or even worse.”
