TOY SALES RIVAL TICKET SALES FOR PIRATES

Forget what it earned at the box office. So far Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has brought in $1.6 billion in merchandise sales, according to Jo Pascoe, director of toys at Disney Consumer Products. Speaking at a preview of the upcoming American International Toy Fair, Pascoe said, “Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean is the ultimate pirate franchise bringing to life the fun and adventure in pirate role play that kids just love.” She said that Disney is moving out a new line of toys connected with the franchise in time for the latest installment which opens May 20. “Fans, kids and collectors alike are in for a treat,” she said.
