MICHAEL MOORE SUES WEINSTEINS

February 8, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Add Michael Moore to the list of Hollywood celebrities who have sued a movie studio for allegedly manipulating box office receipts to deprive them of their share of profits. In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles, Moore alleges that The Weinstein Co. hid at least $2.7 million in profits that he was entitled to for his 2004 feature documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. In a statement, his lawyer, Larry Stein, suggested that he believes the actual amount may turn out to be “much, much higher.” The Weinsteins have engaged famed Hollywood attorney Bert Fields to represent them in their defense. In a statement, Fields pointed out that the Weinsteins have already paid Moore $19.8 million in backend profits on the film. “He should be ashamed of himself,” Fields said on Monday.
