NETFLIX SHARES SOAR ON NEW RESEARCH

High-flying shares of Netflix rose to new heights on Monday following word that the online movie rental company is launching a movie-streaming service aimed at owners of Android mobile devices. Netflix already provides such a service for iPhone users. Also on Monday, it was reported that in January, Netflix streamed 200 million videos — 38 percent more than it had in December. Researchers Screen Digest also said that increasingly consumers are turning to online movie rentals while buying fewer of them online. It predicted that within two years online movie rentals will increase to $341.7 million in 2013, up 120 percent from $155.2 million in 2010. On the other hand, digital purchases will only rise 43.6 percent over the same period, from $230.6 million in 2010 to $331.1 million in 2013.
