Jeff Fager, who was named chairman of CBS News on Tuesday, said he will remain as executive producer of 60 Minutes. He told
Broadcasting & Cable magazine: “It’s a terrific development and also a real complement to the people of
60 Minutes because [CBS Chairman/CEO] Les [Moonves] feels so strongly about [the show]. He’s proud of us, and he’s proud of this broadcast.” Fager parried questions about whether he wants to keep Katie Couric on as anchor of the
CBS Evening News, saying that he doesn’t know whether Couric wants to stay. “I just don’t know that she does, so it’s a little premature,” he said. In a separate interview with the
Los Angeles Times, Fager said that he needs “to spend time with her to see what she is thinking … and what is best for CBS News.”
