Adam Sandler may win little respect from critics for his films and overseas moviegoers have yet to cotton on to his brand of comedy, but studio executives have got to be impressed with his ability to sell tickets domestically — especially now that his latest movie, Just Go With It, has become the 12th Sandler movie to gross more than $100 million. Sony estimated that the film wound up the weekend with $100.3 million. The Los Angeles Times pointed out today (Monday) that no other comedian has been so successful at the box office — not even close. Of 14 Sandler movies released since 2000, it observed, only two, 2009’s Funny People and 2004’s Spanglish, failed to earn $100 million. His closest rival is Eddie Murphy, who has appeared in nine live-action films that topped $100 million. However, the Times observed, most of those were released more than a decade ago.
