Frank Rich, the former TV, film, and theater critic who in 1994 began writing an Op-Ed column for the New York Times about what it called “the intersection of culture and news,” has jumped to New York magazine, where he will continue his column and also act as the magazine’s “editor at large.” The announcement was made Tuesday by New York magazine’s editor-in-chief, Adam Moss, who previously edited the Times’s Sunday magazine supplement, which has featured a weekly essay by Rich. In a statement, Rich said that he was leaving the Times “with deep affection for both the institution and my many brilliant colleagues.” However, he remarked, he had been looking for another “exciting” opportunity for the past year, and “it was impossible to top the idea of reuniting with my friend Adam Moss, who … was instrumental in my transition from arts criticism to broader essay writing.”
