Relativity Media, which already has a deal in place with Netflix that allows the online renter to stream movies that it controls ahead of the pay-TV window, may also produce content exclusively for Netflix, the New York Post reported today, citing unnamed sources. The report comes one week after Netflix signed a deal with Media Rights Capital to become the original outlet for David Fincher’s series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey — outbidding traditional pay-TV companies like HBO and Showtime. The Post quoted one studio chief as describing Netflix’s entry into original programing as “cataclysmic” for the traditional pay-TV market. The Post noted that while Netflix’s streaming customers are increasing exponentially, HBO lost 1.5 million subscribers last year.
