PINUP STARS TO GO ON DISPLAY AT CANNES

Some of Hollywood’s most famous pinup stars will be pinned up, so to speak, on the walls of the Palais des Festivals, the main theater at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the festival said today (Thursday). The display of photos from the collection of the late Anglo-Austrian journalist John Kobal, which now includes more than one million images dating back to the early days of moviemaking, will be the first “to celebrate the glossy world of the pin-up in a major exhibition,” the festival said. In a statement, it urged those attending this year’s screening to “take the chance of a lifetime to see how great stars and sexy starlets alike love to strike an alluring pose. … In black and white or Technicolor, Ava [Gardner], Rita [Hayworth], Brigitte [Bardot], Cyd [Charisse], Jane [Mansfield] or Marilyn [Monroe] battle it out with smoldering glances and dangerous curves.”
