TREE OF LIFE WILL PREMIERE AT CANNES AFTER ALL

Terrence Malick’s much anticipated The Tree of Life, starring Sean Penn and Brad Pitt, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 11 after all. Icon Film Distribution, which had planned to open it in the U.K. on May 4 — a week before its screening in Cannes — issued a terse statement today (Wednesday) saying that it not only has abandoned plans for the May 4 opening but that it currently has no release plans for the film at all. “There is a legal issue ongoing for the film which we hoped to resolve but were unable to do so,” an Icon spokesman said. The film is set to open in the U.S. on May 27.
