Fast Five has given Universal its biggest overseas gross for a single weekend in the studio’s history. Widening to 6,979 locations in 58 countries in its third week overseas — it opened in several key markets a week before its domestic debut — the movie took in $86.6 million — without the benefit of 3D surcharges. It has now taken in $184.8 million abroad and $139.9 million in North America for a gross-to-date of $324.7 million. Meanwhile Paramount’s release of Marvel’s
Thor, which was the top box-office finisher overseas last weekend, dropped to second place with $46 million, bringing its foreign total after 11 days to $176 million.
