Jon Stewart

Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart edged out The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to become the No. 1 late-night talk show among adults 18-49 during May. According to Nielsen Research, Stewart averaged 1,344,000 viewers to Leno’s 1,340,000. That’s a difference of just 0.3 percent, statistically insignificant, but Comedy Central remarked that it signaled that Stewart’s show had become “the top destination for young viewers … across all of television, both broadcast and cable.” With 1,124,000 young adults tuning in, Late Show with David Letterman had 16 percent fewer viewers in the demo. Other top finishers included: The Colbert Report, 978,000; Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, 848,000; Jimmy Kimmel Live, 735,000; The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, 725,000 and Conan, 701,000.
