ALL HALLOWS BREAKS LOOSE WITH $43.5 MILLION

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 shattered records Thursday night/Friday morning as midnight screenings of the movie earned $43.5 million, far and away the most ever earned for a midnight performance of any movie, anywhere. The previous record was set by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which earned $30 million in its midnight debut in 2010. Daily Variety reported that earlier in the day the movie had taken in about $50 million in advance ticket sales — another record — about half for the midnight screenings.
