Davis Guggenheim’s From the Sky Down, a documentary about the Irish rock band U2, has been set to open the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 8, organizers announced today (Tuesday). It will be the first time that a documentary has ever opened the 36-year-old festival. Producing a case of dueling band documentaries, Cameron Crowe’s Pearl Jam Twenty is also due to be screened at the festival. The festival’s red carpet is due to be trod upon by an impressive band of celebrities this year, each of them touting their own features playing at the festival. George Clooney will be appearing in two films slated for screening at the Festival, his own The Ides of March, plus Alexander Payne’s Descendants. Brad Pitt will be appearing in the baseball drama Moneyball and Jane Fonda in Peace, Love Misunderstanding.
