Jane Fonda charged on Sunday that QVC had canceled her appearance on the shopping channel after receiving complaints and boycott threats from viewers who objected to her involvement in protests and demonstrations during the Vietnam War. “I am, to say the least, deeply disappointed that QVC caved to this kind of insane pressure by some well-funded and organized political extremist groups. And that they did it without talking to me first,” Fonda said on her blog. Fonda was due to appear on the channel to promote her book about aging, Prime Time. “Bottom line, this has gone on far too long, this spreading of lies about me! None of it is true. NONE OF IT! I love my country. I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us,” she wrote. QVC released a statement attributing the cancellation to a routine scheduling change and maintained that such cancellations are “not unusual.”
