GOODBYE, WISTERIA LANE

Apparently ABC has decided to shut down Desperate Housewives after eight seasons before commentators began referring to the lead characters as spinsters. Once the top show on ABC’s schedule, Housewives has seen a steady erosion of its ratings in recent years. Speaking to the Television Critics Association on Sunday, Housewives creator Marc Cherry said he was shutting down the show after next season being well aware that it continues to draw decent ratings. “The only thing harder than creating a hit show is knowing when to end,” he told the TCA at their annual “tour” in Beverly Hills, CA. “I am very aware of people overstaying their welcome and I wanted to get out while the network still saw us as a viable show, while we were still a force to be contended with,” Cherry remarked.
