The British teen comedy The Inbetweeners, which set a U.K. box office record for a comedy film when it opened three weeks ago, has continued to hold the top position, making it the country’s third highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The King’s Speech. Its total of $56 million has already surpassed this year’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Hangover: Part II. Reporting on the results, Britain’s Guardian newspaper noted that all three top films were produced in the U.K. (although Harry Potter was financed in the U.S. by Warner Bros.). Their success “certainly represents the strongest year for British cinema in a very long time,” the newspaper commented.
