WHERE DID ALL THE SUNDAY VIEWERS GO?

There were disappointments galore Sunday night as the new season saw returning shows and new entrants draw relatively weak overnight ratings. Versus the same night a year ago, CBS’s 60 Minutes was down 16 percent, The Amazing Race down 21 percent, The Good Wife down 12 percent and CSI Miami down a whopping 31 percent. Over at ABC, the two-hour season debut of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was off 13 percent, while Desperate Housewives dropped 28 percent. Fox’s lineup was virtually flat with last y ear — but it had a runover of an NFL telecast going for it. But even NBC’s Sunday Night Football took a hit. It was down 22 percent from a year ago. The only real bright spot of the night was the debut of Pan Am on ABC, which landed in second place in its time period (behind football) and bettered the previous occupant of the slot, Brothers & Sisters, by 7 percent.
