Veteran British TV host Jimmy Savile, who gained fame introducing the leading international singers on the BBC’s Top of the Pops, which launched in 1964, has died in Leeds, England two days before his 85th birthday. Saville was also famous for raising money for charities — more than $60 million — principally for children’s groups, although — a lifelong bachelor — he had no children of his own. He was also famous as the host of Jim’ll Fix It from 1975-95, a kind of Make A Wish affair, in which he arranged for the wishes of children to come true.
