NEWS INTERNATIONAL LAWYER ADMITS HE KNEW OF HACKING

A member of the British law firm whose clients include the queen and who represented Rupert Murdoch’s News International has acknowledged that he was aware that the organization, which published the now-defunct News of the World, had misled Parliament when it claimed that the paper’s phone hacking scandal was limited to a single “rogue” reporter. Julian Pike of Farrer & Co. told the Commons Culture, Media and Sport committee on Wednesday that he had seen evidence in 2008 indicating that at least three other News of the World reporters were involved in the hacking and that he had informed News International of the evidence. He said he had not gone public with that information or informed authorities because “we have obligations to the client we work for.”
