It was only available as a $34 Blu-ray disc combo package, but there were enough sales in that format alone to make the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, the top seller last week, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert, which does not release actual sales figures. Disney’s home entertainment unit plans to release a standalone Stranger Tides DVD on November 15. That turns out to be the same day that it will become available for rental by Redbox and Netflix. Ordinarily, Disney does not require those two renters to wait 28 days, as other studios do, but it is altering its marketing strategy in the case of the latest Pirates movie. According to Home Media magazine, the top sellers last week were: 1. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Disney; 2. Green Lantern, Warner Bros.; 3. Bad Teacher, Sony; 4. Horrible Bosses, Warner Bros.; 5. Fast Five, Universal; 6. The Lion King: Diamond Edition, Disney; 7. Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Paramount; 8. Batman: Year One, Warner Bros.; 9. Monte Carlo, Fox; 10 Bridesmaids, Universal.
