WILL ANONYMOUS GO WIDE? THAT IS THE QUESTION

The wide release of the Shakespeare drama Anonymous set for October 28 is, well, not to be. According to the Los Angeles Times, Sony plans to open the Roland Emmerich drama, which raises the question of who really wrote Shakespeare’s plays, in just 250 theaters, after tracking surveys of movie audiences proved to be “soft.” In an interview with the Times, Sony distribution chief Rory Bruer added, “We love the picture and think it’s going to get great word of mouth. … We’re committed to expanding it until it plays wide. A source close to the project told TheWrap.com, “We believe a gradual rollout is the best way for audiences to discover, embrace and champion the movie through the holiday season.”
