A NEW BOX OFFICE RECORD FOR BREAKING DAWN?

November 16, 2011 by · 1 Comment

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 may be receiving dreadful early reviews (It “sweeps us away on a new riptide of mawkish euphoria,” commented Peter Bradshaw in Britain’s Guardian newspaper), but ┬áis expected to earn $115-125 million this weekend, according to a Summit Entertainment internal estimate, Nikki Finke reported on her Deadline.com blog Tuesday. Finke later updated that report by noting that rival studios believe that Summit is actually lowballing that estimate and that they believe the latest in the vampire romance series will debut with more than $142 million. (The last Twilight film opened with $142.8 million.) Breaking Dawn is due to open after midnight (Thursday night) and widen to more than 4,000 theaters domestically on Friday night.
