The Walt Disney Co. on Monday shot down speculation that it planned to offer new releases on YouTube for 99 cents, as some reports had indicated. Disney spokesperson Bridget Osterhaus emailed Home Media magazine a message saying that no films from Disney will be available for 99 cents, and YouTube spokesperson Chris Dale later confirmed that no Disney release will be available for less than $1.99. Their comments came after BTIG Research analyst Richard Greenfield warned that studios posting films on YouTube within days of their being released on DVD risked devaluing the content of those discs. He questioned Warner Bros.’ rationale for releasing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 on YouTube two weeks after it went on sale in stores. A Warner Bros. spokesperson told Home Media that the released represented a limited-time promotion.
