In yet another scandal involving Rupert Murdoch and his sons, a former Australian senator has claimed that Lachlan Murdoch was present when an executive of News Ltd., News Corp’s Australian arm, offered an Australian legislator favorable coverage if the senator would vote against a digital television system that the company opposed. The allegations by the former senator, Bill O’Chee, were published today in Fairfax Media newspapers, Australian rivals of News Corp. Attempting to induce a legislator to vote for or against a bill is an offense that carries a punishment of up to seven years in prison. Lachlan Murdoch, who now devotes most of his time to independent Australian businesses, said that he has no recollection of the meeting with O’Chee.
