MACY’S PARADE RISES AGAIN IN RATINGS

November 28, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The 85th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC drew the kind of ratings that primetime producers dream about. It was watched by 21.4 million viewers, off just 3 percent from the 22.1 million who tuned in a year ago. In fact, the parade drew nearly as many viewers as all of the networks combined averaged in primetime Thursday night, a night that saw a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special edge out A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, which followed — and a lineup of repeats on CBS surpassing both of them. As usual, TV viewing the next day, Black Friday, was down versus the rest of the season’s Fridays. On Saturday, College football gave ABC a win for the night, but the game between Notre Dame and Stanford averaged only 5.17 million viewers. NFL football again dominated on Sunday night, with an overrun on CBS delivering 13.5 million viewers in the 7:00 hour and NBC’s Sunday Night Football averaging 14.2 million during the rest of primetime.
