The seventh game of the World Series attracted an average of 25.4 million viewers to Fox last Friday, making it the most-watched baseball contest since 2004. Overall, the series between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals raised the Series’ average to 16.6 million viewers, up 19 percent over last year’s. With figures like that, even NBC’s Sunday Night Football, which usually occupies the No. 1 spot, had to take a back seat. With 22.9 million viewers, the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles came in second in the Nielsen ratings, edging out the sixth game of the Series, which drew 21.1 million viewers. CBS’s NCIS remained a contender with 19.4 million viewers, placing fourth. And a 60 Minutes interview with the family of Bernard Madoff drew 18.6 million viewers, representing the news magazine’s biggest audience this year. Among the evening newscasts, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams remained the leader with 8.5 million viewers. ABC News with Diane Sawyer remained in second place with 7.5 million, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley trailed with 6 million viewers. CBS continued to lead the field in primetime among total adults, capturing an average 8.0 rating and a 13 share. ABC placed second with a 6.3/10, just a hair above Fox with a 6.2/10. NBC, as usual remained far behind with a 4.6/7.
