Although Lowe’s on Monday claimed that it was not the only advertiser to pull its ads off TLC’s All-American Muslim series, the network itself declined to comment on the Lowe’s statement. In response to an inquiry by the Los Angeles Times, Laurie Goldberg, a spokeswoman for the Discovery Network and TLC Network, said in an email, “We stand behind the show ‘All-American Muslim,’ and we’re happy the show has strong advertising support.” Meanwhile, Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison, the first Muslim-American elected to Congress, condemned the home-improvement chain for its decision to “uphold the beliefs of a fringe hate group and not the creed of the First Amendment.” Ellison was referring to the Florida Family Association, which had launched a letter-writing campaign protesting Lowe’s decision to sponsor the program.
