Days before launching Oprah’s Next Chapter, her new Sunday-night series on her OWN cable channel, Oprah Winfrey has vowed to reinvigorate the channel, which has proved to be a disappointment to all concerned — Winfrey included — during its first year. In an interview with the Associated Press, Winfrey remarked, “I don’t worry about failure. I worry about, ‘Did I do all I could do?” Winfrey appeared to concede that she did not. “My focus up until [last] May was doing what I do best, which is The Oprah Winfrey Show, and giving that my full attention,” she said. But in the months since that show concluded, she indicated, she has increasingly devoted herself to correcting “mistakes” on OWN that were made during the first year. “I don’t give up. I’m just getting started,” she told the AP. She said that a number of other media figures — “anybody who’s ever worked with a channel” over the years — have told her that “it takes three to five years” for a major project to become successful. “You have to do the work.”
