DVD STUDY: CONSUMERS RENTING MORE, BUYING LESS

January 11, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Americans were renting and streaming more movies at home last year but buying fewer of them, according to a report by Los Angeles-based Digital Entertainment Group. According to DEG, total spending for home video fell just 2 percent to $18 billion, even as sales of DVDs fell 20 percent to $6.95 billion. Helping to offset that drop was a 20-percent rise in sales of Blu-ray discs, which rose 20 percent to $2 billion in 2011. A surge in online DVD rental services and the growing use of kiosk rental sites accounted for most of the remainder.
