January may not seem like the time of the year when anyone is thinking about baseball, but the Brad Pitt baseball drama Moneyball easily became the No. 1 DVD and Blu-ray seller last week, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. It also debuted in first place on Home Media magazine’s rental chart. The movie, about Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane’s effort to assemble a winning baseball team on a shoestring budget, earned $75.4 million during its theatrical run, roughly twice its $47-million production cost. Reviewers praised the performance of Brad Pitt, who is on everyone’s runner-up list for top acting awards. Debuting in second place on the sales chart was Universal’s Killer Elite, starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro. The movie flopped at the box office, taking in just $25 million. In third place was HBO’s Boardwalk Empire: The Complete First Season.
