Talk about “advance ticket sales!” The next Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, doesn’t open until July 19 (a midnight screening), but already seats at two IMAX theaters in Los Angeles and New York that put them on sale last week have sold out for that screening, reported on Tuesday. The website said that a handful of IMAX venues that screened a six-minute trailer for the movie ahead of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol thought that they could capitalize on the promo to sell tickets. As a result, seats at the IMAX theater at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square cineplex in New York sold out quickly as they did at the AMC Loews Universal City cineplex in L.A. A few tickets remain at the Rave IMAX in Los Angeles and at the Metreon in San Francisco, according to Deadline. No other tickets at any other theater are currently available for TDKR. In a related matter, IMAX said today (Wednesday) that, as of Sunday, Jan. 8, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol: The IMAX Experience has generated $53.5 million in worldwide ticket sales — $37.5 million from domestic sales; $16 million overseas.
