Police in Memphis, TN deleted photos and videos taken by a news photographer for WPTY (“ABC24”), the local ABC affiliate, after he refused to obey an order by them to stop taking pictures of an arrest they were carrying out, according to the station. The photographer, Casey Monroe, indicated that he heard a commotion between the owner of a Thai restaurant and police outside the restaurant and began taking pictures. Monroe said that he was “just trying to document the situation going on.” But even though he was on public property, one of the officers told him, “You can’t be taking pictures of us.” He was then placed in the back seat of a squad car, his photographs and movies deleted.
