Uggie, the Jack Russell Terrier who stole scenes like a loveable bandit in The Artist and who upstaged the cast of the movie when they appeared onstage during the Golden Globes Awards, has been snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Reuters reported on Tuesday. The wire service also put the kibbosh on widespread rekports that Uggie had been rehearsing an Oscar skit with host Billy Crystal. The report appeared just one day after Uggie was awarded the Golden Collar Award for best dog in a theatrical film, bestowed by Dog News Daily. His trainer, Omar von Muller, told Reuters, “People don’t realize how many hours we put into training these dogs into becoming movie stars.” Uggie is also a star on YouTube, displaying an impressive bag of award-worthy tricks.
