HUNGER GAMES SLAYS RIVALS AGAIN

The Hunger Games killed off all competitors in its fourth week, retaining the crown as the No. 1 film at the box office with a total weekend take of $21.1 million, according to final figures released on Monday. It was challenged by the debut of the Farrelly Bros.’ The Three Stooges, which raked in a bigger-than-expected $17 million. Nevertheless, the overall box office was down 12 percent from the comparable week a year ago, when Fox’s animated Rio opened with $39.2 million. This was only the second weekend this year that the box office has been down from its weak start a year ago. After 15 weeks, the box office is up 19.2 percent from 2011 while attendance is up 22 percent.
