They’re (literally) rolling out the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Beginning tomorrow (Wednesday), it will be tread on by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson, Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, and Kristen Stewart, among others. The festival kicks off with a screening of Focus Features’ Moonrise Kingdom, directed by Wes Anderson and starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and two child actors, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, who play two 1960s 12-year-olds who hatch a plan to run off together. They wind up being pursued by a Scoutmaster (Norton) and his troop. While Anderson’s work is often compared with European directors, Anderson, in an interview with today’s (Tuesday) USA Today maintained that the subject of Moonrise Kingdom “makes for a very American film. … It’s even [like] Norman Rockwell.
