CONSUMERS LIKE NETFLIX BETTER THAN VIDEO-ON-DEMAND

Consumers prefer to watch movies that they rent from Netflix’s streaming service over those available via pay-TV, video on demand, and premium channels, according to a study by researchers Parks Associates. In a report titled “Choosing Content: Viewing Video,” the group found that Netflix was “cannibalizing’ its rivals’ offerings. “Consumers can pay for a month of Netflix for about the same amount as for two pay-TV VOD movies,” Brett Sappington, Parks Associates’ director of research, said in a statement. “Parks Associates research shows consumers know the quality of the [Netflix] service is not comparable to pay-TV quality, but the cost-benefit comparison is enough to affect their purchase decisions.”
