THE NEW NORMAL DEBUTS WITH SOLID RATINGS

NBC’s controversial The New Normal, about a gay couple in search of a surrogate mother to help them start a family, made a solid ratings debut Monday night, attracting 6.9 million viewers and a 2.5 rating and a 6 share to win the 10:00 p.m. hour. Together with a two-hour season premiere of The Voice, which averaged 12 million viewers, it gave NBC a big win for the night, although The Voice‘s numbers were down significantly from its premiere a year ago. The show moves into its regular time period at 9:30 p.m. tonight (Tuesday), which lacks the kind of lead-in it had on Monday. (It follows the series debut of the Matthew Perry sitcom Go On.)
