<strong>Redbox, the DVD kiosk operator, says that it will soon be getting into the discount ticket business, offering unsold seats at live concerts and sports events with just a $1 service fee attached. Tickets will be made available at both the kiosks and at Redbox’s website. According to today’s (Thursday) Wall Street Journal, Redbox has begun testing the ticket-selling service first in Philadelphia where it is currently offering seats for a Carrie Underwood show at the 19,000-seat Wells Fargo Center arena on Nov. 28 as well as tickets for Villanova football games and Pocono Raceway NASCAR races. In reporting on Redbox’s plans, the Journal observed, “The ticket industry has grappled for years with the question of what to do with tickets that haven’t sold by the time an event starts. Giving them away or selling them for a discount is one obvious way to get some return on an otherwise unsold and wasted ticket.”
