For a cable-TV movie, Liz & Dick, which aired on the Lifetime channel Sunday night, the ratings were OK — about 3.5 million viewers watched, according to Nielsen Research, making it the fourth-highest-rated movie of the year on cable. (The other three also aired on Lifetime.) But clearly, given the amount of publicity the movie had attracted in advance, much of it centered on the casting of Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor, the ratings must have disappointed. Reviews of the movie, in which critics almost unanimously bashed Lohan’s performance, may have contributed to the lower-than-expected ratings. The twitterati kept up a non-stop fusillade on the film as it played. Today’s (Tuesday) New York Post published a few of the tweets: “Just turned on #LizAndDick after The Walking Dead. The walkers have more charisma and screen presence than Lindsey Lohan.” “Holy God in heaven… #LizandDick is pure torture.” “These last 2 days of food poisoning have entertained me more than this movie #LizandDick.”
