The season finale of Fox’s The X Factor drew 9.6 million viewers Thursday night and finished at No. 1 among the 18-49 age group, down only slightly from last year’s overnight figures. The winner turned out to be Tate Stevens, a likable country singer who had made a living laying asphalt and who, unlike most previous winners, did not become teary eyed when he learned of his victory. Despite the fact that ratings for the deciding show did not decline as much as some TV writers had predicted, it should be noted that it did not have much competition, and in total adults it was beaten in every half-hour by CBS’s lineup of reruns, including The Big Bang Theory, which drew 19.92 million viewers.
