January 2, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey remained the top film at theaters on New Year’s Eve, taking in an additional $7 million, to bring its domestic total to $228.6 million. Somewhat surprisingly, however, Les Misérables moved ahead of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained to take second place with $6.3 million, beating Django‘s $5.2 million, and bringing its domestic gross to $73 million. Coming in fourth was the family comedy Parental Guidance, with Billy Crystal and Bette Midler, with a solid $4.7 million, while Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher rounded out the top five with $3.4 million.
