REPORTS: LABEOUF’S APOLOGY TO BALDWIN PLAGIARIZED

Shia LaBeouf’s efforts to manage his public relations via the social media following his departure from the Broadway production of Orphans has apparently backfired. On Wednesday, LaBeouf published excerpts of his correspondence with fellow cast member Alec Baldwin and others connected with the play on his Twitter page, including his apology to Baldwin. But Jon Boon, a reporter for Radar Online, presumably thought that the words of the apology sounded familiar and Googled them online. What came back were the almost identical words written in an article titled “How to Be a Man” that appeared in a 2009 edition of Esquire magazine. (Indeed, if one Googles the words “what is a man,” the Esquire piece is the second result.) The purloined apology, commented Boon, amounted to “the ultimate act of plagiarism.”
