It was something for Yoda to ponder deeply: In addition to Star Wars episodes VII, VIII, and IX there will be “a few” stand-alone films that will depart from the overall story line. Walt Disney chairman Robert Iger made the disclosure Tuesday during an interview on business channel CNBC. “There has been speculation about some standalone films that have been in development, and I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few stand-alone films,” Iger said. He indicated that screenwriters Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are already working on scripts for the stand-alone movies. Speculation immediately arose on various sci-fi-related websites that the first of these separate films will feature Yoda. On his popular website, Harry Knowles said, “They’re going to focus on established characters and do solo films, no, not necessarily Han Solo films. … The first Stand Alone film is going to center upon Yoda At this stage specifics are sparse, but [producer] Kathleen Kennedy is putting together a Star Wars slate… I’m wildly curious for more details on the Yoda film.”
