TV chef Anthony Bourdain’s new series on CNN, Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, debuted on Sunday with 747,000 viewers of whom 282,000 were in the 25-54 age group, the demo advertisers prize when it comes to news programs. Tellingly, that number was more than twice that of CNN’s principal rival, Fox News during the 9:00 p.m. period on Sunday. (Fox was first in total viewers, however, for Fox News Reports: Your Secret Is Out.) It was a particularly impressive figure given the fact that Bourdain’s cable competition also included Game of Thrones on HBO, the MTV Movie Awards, and Hardcore Pawn on TruTV. CNN also posted the entire episode, which followed Bourdain on a mostly gastronomical tour of Myanmar (Burma) on its website. Reporting on the results Washington Post TV columnist Lisa de Moraes wrote: “CNN may have figured its way out of its ratings problem. Dump news.”
