WALMART TO SELL TICKETS TO SUPERMAN PREVIEW

Walmart stores sell more DVD and Blue-ray Disc releases than any other retailer in the world — and now they’re going to begin selling movie tickets, too. In an apparent marketing experiment about one million tickets to a one-day-early screening (June 13) of Warner Bros.’ Superman movie Man of Steel will go on sale at 3,718 Walmart stores in the U.S. on May 18. Prices apparently won’t be discounted and will be in line with those charged at local theaters. In an interview with the New York Times, Warner’s distribution chief Dan Fellman said, “You hear these staggering numbers of how many people walk through a Walmart every day, and that gives us an exposure that we really can’t put a dollar number on.” Ticket buyers at the Walmart stores will also be able to pre-order a home-video version of the movie and be able to download a Superman comic book written by Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer.
